In conjunction with UTAR’s 20th anniversary, the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) launched the Top Glove Engineering Laboratory on March 15 at Sungai Long Campus. The Top Glove Engineering Lab was named to thank Top Glove for their generosity of donating RM1million towards UTAR Hospital.

Gracing the launch were UTAR Council Member and UTAR Hospital Board Chairman Ir Academician Emeritus Prof Tan Sri Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, UTAR President Ir Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Ir Prof Dr Goi Bok Min,  LKC FES Dean Assoc Prof Ts Dr Yap Wun She, LKC FES Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Ts Dr Lee Kim Yee, Department of Laboratory Management and Safety Administration Head Ts Dr King Yeong Jin, Department of Chemical Engineering Head Dr Mah Shee Keat, Centre for Photonics and Advanced Materials Research Chairperson Dr Steven Lim and Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn. Representing Top Glove were its Group Engineering Senior Manager John Sew, Top Glove Foundation Senior Manager Mei Ng, Top Glove Foundation Assistant Manager Ng Bee Wei and Top Glove Foundation Executive II Daniel Teoh.

In Prof Ewe’s speech, he said, “Rapid technological change and digitalisation transform the way we live and the things we use. The capacity to innovate and create value through new ideas, products, services and business models will be critical for maintaining our competitiveness in the current landscape and enabling us to push for more sustainable solutions. The Top Glove Engineering Lab will serve as a lab where students can learn to execute practical applications of technologies, expand their knowledge and skills and prepare them for real-world applications. I hope we can work together to lift both UTAR and Top Glove to even greater heights. I am confident that as we continue to innovate and create new value, we will be able to strengthen Malaysia’s competitiveness in the future global economy.”

We can progress even further into advanced analytics and predictive engines to further boost and augment our capabilities. The equipped engineering lab makes the learning journey better and more effective for UTAR students.
