TAN SRI DR. LIM WEE CHAI HONOURED WITH ANUGERAH ALUMNI KEDERMAWANAN AT MALAM ALUMNI UNIVERSITI AWAM 2024

Top Glove’s Executive Chairman Recognised for Significant Contributions to Universiti Malaya

SHAH ALAM, Monday, 19 August 2024 Top Glove Corporation Bhd is proud to announce that its Executive Chairman, Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai, has been honoured with the prestigious Anugerah Alumni Kedermawanan at the Malam Alumni Universiti Awam 2024 (MAL’24) held on Saturday, 17 August 2024. This award recognises his outstanding contributions to the higher education sector, particularly in supporting Universiti Malaya (UM), his alma mater.

The award is a testament to Tan Sri Dr. Lim’s unwavering commitment to philanthropy, which is deeply rooted in his passion for lifelong learning, promoting healthy living, and advancing healthcare. During the COVID19 pandemic, Tan Sri Dr. Lim provided critical financial aid and personal protective equipment (PPE) to Universiti Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC) and other public hospitals, ensuring the safety and wellbeing of healthcare workers and patients alike. In addition to that, he made a generous financial contribution of RM2 million in 2023 towards facilitating the establishment of Malaysia’s first medical museum, ‘Muzium Perubatan Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai’, incorporating and upgrading UM’s Faculty of Medicine’s Anatomy Resource Centre and the Pathology Museum, the construction of which is currently underway.

Expressing his gratitude, Tan Sri Dr. Lim said, “I am deeply honoured to receive the Anugerah Alumni Kedermawanan. My time at Universiti Malaya has shaped my journey, and it is a privilege to give back to an institution that has given me so much. This recognition reinforces my commitment to supporting education and healthcare, and I hope to continue making a positive impact in these areas.”

MAL’24, an event organised by Majlis Alumni Universiti Awam Malaysia to celebrate the contributions of public university alumni, was held with the objectives of appreciating the services of alumni who contribute to their alma mater, fostering closer ties between alumni and their alma maters, and strengthening connections among Malaysian public university alumni.

The event honoured the contributions of alumni across three award categories: Anugerah Ikon Alumni, Anugerah Kedermawanan and Anugerah Muda Harapan. The nominations for the awards were made by each of the public universities, and the Ministry of Higher Education made the final selection of the recipients.

In addition to Tan Sri Dr. Lim, MAL’24 also honoured Dato’ Dr. Daing A. Malek Daing A. Rahaman, Vice President of Forest City Berhad, with the Anugerah Alumni Kedermawanan. Meanwhile, Awang Damit Ahmad, one of Malaysia’s most renowned and well established artists, received the Anugerah Ikon Alumni; and Malaysian diver Pandelela Rinong Pamg was among the 20 recipients of the Anugerah Alumni Muda Harapan.

Tan Sri Dr. Lim Wee Chai, who completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics with Honours in 1982 at Universiti Malaya, remains deeply connected to his roots in higher education and continues to champion initiatives that promote academic excellence and healthcare advancements. His philanthropic efforts stand as a beacon of his dedication to the betterment of society. He also received his Master of Business Administration from Sul Ross State University, Texas, United States of America in 1985 followed by his Doctor of Philosophy in Management from University of Selangor, Malaysia in 2015. In addition, Tan Sri Dr. Lim has been conferred several Honorary Doctorates from local and overseas universities in recognition of his vast experience and contributions to society.
