TOP GLOVE CONTRIBUTES RM30,000 TO SUPPORT WWF-MALAYSIA’S CONSERVATION EFFORTS

Portion of revenue from sale of biodegradable gloves donated in fulfilment of campaign target

Shah Alam, Tuesday, 30 June 2020 Top Glove Corporation Bhd (Top Glove) the world’s largest manufacturer of gloves, today donated RM30,000 to support WWF-Malaysia’s conservation efforts, in fulfilment of a campaign target for a collaboration between Top Glove, WWF-Malaysia and MR. D.I.Y.

In August 2019, Top Glove joined hands with Mr. D.I.Y. and WWF-Malaysia on a meaningful initiative whereby for each box of its flagship green product: Biogreen™ Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves (PowderFree) sold in MR. D.I.Y. outlets nationwide, as well as on online platforms www.mrdiy.com and www.TGBuys.com (Top Glove’s online store) between 1 August 2019 and 30 June 2020, Top Glove would donate a portion of its sales to WWF-Malaysia.

The Biogreen™ Biodegradable Nitrile Gloves have been proven to biodegrade at least 10 times faster compared to conventional nitrile examination gloves based on the internationally-recognised ASTM D5511 Standard Test. Featuring an accelerator-free formulation, the gloves also minimise the risk of Type IV hypersensitivity reaction.

Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, Executive Chairman of Top Glove said, “We are pleased to be able to contribute to environmental conservation efforts, which is an important area of focus for us. The response for this campaign reflects a growing awareness amongst our customers of the importance of choosing green products and making more sustainable choices. This is very encouraging to us and we will continue to strengthen our portfolio of environmentally friendly products.”

In line with Top Glove’s unwavering commitment to sustainability, it has since expanded its green product range to include biodegradable Cast Polyethylene (CPE) gloves, Charcoal Nitrile Examination Gloves, latex powdered & powder-free gloves as well as low protein latex powder-free examination gloves. The Company is also intensifying its R&D efforts to reduce the environmental footprint of its products, such as upcycling its torn nitrile into other rubber products such as rubber bales, former rubber gaskets, rubber mats and shoe soles, which will enhance the company’s waste management.

“We will continue to invest in R&D and innovation initiatives. These will enable us to increase quality, operational efficiency and effectiveness, while continuing to meet our customers’ needs in a sustainable way,” Tan Sri Dr. Lim added.

"WWF-Malaysia is pleased to be a part of this initiative together with Top Glove, as we see it as a good opportunity to showcase how industries can work together with us to conserve the environment. The responsibility of providing solutions to environmental problems have always been dependent on governments and international organisations, and we have come to realise that businesses, especially major corporations like Top Glove, can be a strong positive force for environmental sustainability. Businesses and the public need to understand the profound effect we’ve had on the planet and be involved in the solutions,” said Helina Yow, Director of Partnerships for WWF-Malaysia
