BUILDING A BUSINESS FOR GOOD

Giving back to society is a foremost business priority for the world’s largest manufacturer of gloves

Shah Alam, Friday, 3 July 2020 Top Glove Corporation Bhd (Top Glove), the world’s largest manufacturer of gloves, is committed to doing well and also, to doing good. Accordingly, caring for the welfare of communities ranks high on its corporate agenda alongside growing the business.

Mindful that its duty as a corporate citizen extends beyond delivering value to its shareholders to include the wider society, Top Glove has earmarked RM5 million for corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives, which at this critical time includes COVID-19 related initiatives.

As part of this CSR initiative, Top Glove today donated RM300,000 worth of medical equipment and supplies namely ventilators, ultrasound machines and medical suits to the Ministry of Health Malaysia (“MOH”) in support of the ongoing fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, as part of a joint initiative with Tropicana Corporation Berhad.

Top Glove has also pledged RM800,000 in support of a PEMANDU initiative on a COVID-19 tracking software (Global COVID-19 Index). Doing its part to advance the war on COVID-19, the Group had earlier donated 3 million pieces of medical gloves worth RM700,000 to Malaysian hospitals, various government ministries, the Royal Malaysia Police and Malaysian charity organisations, as well as Tzu Chi Foundation Kuala Lumpur for distribution to affected communities. At the initial stage of the outbreak in January 2020, Top Glove also donated 3 million pieces of medical gloves to China as part of a joint effort between the Malaysian government and Malaysian glovemakers.

The Group in June 2020 made an ex-gratia payment to both its local and foreign workers, in appreciation of their contributions which enabled the company to meet the surge in glove demand. Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, Executive Chairman of Top Glove said, “As a corporate citizen and industry leader, we have a tremendous responsibility to ensure we impact our world positively. We are very pleased to be able to give back to society and will continue to work harder, smarter and faster to ensure we are well-positioned to continue contributing and adding value to all our stakeholders.”

“We will also continue to work safely and efficiently to produce as many gloves as possible at this critical time, so we can continue to help protect and save lives”, Tan Sri Dr Lim added.
